Neuroscience shows that under stress, we actually lose brain cells, don't think well, or make the right decisions. Deep slow breathing activates the nervous system to cascade feel-good chemicals throughout the body, reducing blood pressure; single-tasking and focusing on important tasks (studies show the brain doesn’t multi-task well); reframing bad situations (looking for new perspective or meaning) all override the fight or flight response. This taking back of control leads to greater engagement, effectiveness and productivity, all of which affect the bottom line.
Coaching Questions:
- What are my successful strategies for dealing with pressure?
- What am I noticing in those around me?
- What can I do to encourage workplace wellness?
- What are the benefits of doing this?
